SUNDAY'S COMING

February 5, 2012

This week, we gather for a “Sunday Discovery.” At the annual meeting of the congregation last week we adopted an “Action Plan 2012.” This concept looks at three different areas of concern currently before Westminster and offers ideas to address these realities. It encourages the creation of “Action Teams” composed of folks willing assume leadership in on these diverse teams. Sunday we will talk more about the “plan” and gather the insights of everyone. Opportunity will be provided for anyone who wishes to be part of an “action team.”

Our gratitude to Mike Karloff who will again be providing musical leadership in worship as Jean recovers in hospital from her recent surgery. Thanks also to Marion who will be our reader and to Carol and Rainer for hosting “Community Time” following the service.

Please don’t forget the Roast Beef Dinner on Friday, February 3rd (5-7pm). Thanks to Fred and his team for their preparing and organizing the dinner. Tickets are available at the door.

Also Lent will soon be upon us. Tuesday, February 21st we enjoy a “Pancake Supper” in anticipation of this season. Tickets can be obtained from Jeanne. The following day, February 22nd we begin this 6 week season of preparation for Easter with an Ash Wednesday service (7:30pm) at Bedford United Church. Rev Ann Corbett and Rev Martha Daniels will lead the worship. It’s a good way to begin this important season in the church year.

A “March Break Day Camp” (March 12th -16th) is being organized for children in the congregation and the community. Volunteers will be required. Lisa will have a a sign up sheet on the Sunday School board (between the church offices) so people can sing up to help. Lisa is looking for any amount of time or any talents that someone can offer (ie. 1 hour to supervise lunch or 2 hours to run a craft etc) The number of volunteers there are will decide how the camp is set up. Please speak to Lisa on Sunday.

Thanks to everyone who participated in the Presbytery Oversight visit this week. We had a record number of responses and the presbytery delegation seemed very pleased with the interest in their work. Thanks to Brian for his work guiding the congregation through this experience. We await with interest the presbytery report.

On Sunday, Lynn and I leave for our annual winter vacation in the Caribbean. During this period of vacation and ¾ time week away Brian will preside at Sunday worship. We are grateful for his leadership and gifts. A minister is always available and “on call” for pastoral emergencies. Please contact the Church Office.

See you Sunday, David
